SQL/MED, stands for "SQL Management of External Data", which means that the data is not stored in PostgreSQL, but can be managed within PostgreSQL.
With the addition of Foreign Data Wrappers, PostgreSQL can be used along with many other data resources.
In this talk, I will mention about how to extend PostgreSQL with the FDW, including sharding capabilities and other data resources.
