Everyone loves benchmarks, especially if they produce good numbers. But what insight can be gained from a benchmark? How do benchmark numbers correlate to real world application performance?
Starting from acceptable response times and expected load profiles, we will discuss the various time sinks between request and answer. Further, we will analyze system behaviour under varying load levels and their influence on observed performance. This will lead us to a primer into creating relevant and reliable benchmarks. We will explore how to use benchmarks and monitoring for capacity upgrade planning.
