Senior Database and System Administrator, IT Databases Group, CERN
Ruben has joined the IT Databases group at CERN in 2007. He has started as a DBA, designing and implementing a system for backup and recovery of databases, which is the actual standard followed by all IT/DB databases (more than 100, mainly Oracle RAC). In addition, he is the main architect of about 5 PB storage infrastructure using NetApp controllers running clustered Data ONTAP. Ruben is also the project leader of the database on demand service that offers Postgresql, Oracle and MySQL single instances to CERN community in a cloud like fashion. Prior to joining the Database group he was working as a system engineer for the Internet Services group, where he played several roles, i.e. being responsible for mail systems (about 15000 inboxes) and co-responsible person for windows desktops, and designing and managing the Windows Terminal services (4000 users).
Before CERN, he worked for Siemens AG, Ericsson R&D and the Spanish government. He has more than 16 years of experience in IT projects. Ruben has masters in Telecommunications by "Universidad Politécnica de Valencia" and another masters in Finance by Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Ruben has several industrial certifications and is a frequent speaker in IT conferences.
