Schedule - PGConf.EU 2012PG-Strom - GPU Accelerated Asynchronous Query Execution Module
Date: 2012-10-26
This session introduces a brief overview, internal architecture and future direction of PG-Strom, in addition to technology background of GPU computing and FDW mechanism. PG-Strom is a FDW module that utilizes GPU devices to scan massive amount of records with complex qualifiers, performs on well optimized column-oriented data structure underlying foreign tables. GPU device offers cost and energy effective large parallel processing cores, so enables to offload a part of CPU's tasks. PG-Strom makes CPU and GPU focus on the jobs with their specialty each other, and run them asynchronously. This architecture enabled to minimize response time when we tried to analyze towards a bunch of big-data. We assume audiences are interested in data-analytics, heterogeneous-computing or have a particular workload that can be solved with parallel processing, but does not require experts' knowledge about PostgreSQL internals.
