In 2001, Afilias launched .INFO, the first new gTLD ever approved by ICANN. To support its new registry platform, Afilias committed to using open source technology with PostgreSQL. A great deal of consideration was taken to make this strategic choice, on costs, risks, quality and ongoing support for the technology.
